An endangered species - Established in 1946. This western mountain resort is one of the few remaining unique cabin villages in the western Rockies which has original rustic log cabins dating from the 40’s and as early as 1870. Their rough-hewn character and primitive, unfinished nature gives them an enduring quality. Retreat into a small piece of pristine America - the unspoiled beauty & seclusion. Experience the clear mountain air, crystal clear water, and brilliant starry nights. The need to escape and return to a simpler life is of great importance to our well-being and vitality, so leave behind a complex, hectic lifestyle and return to a much simpler existence with our vacation rentals. Visit Lake City's website at  www.lakecity.com. Ask about long-term rentals.

Various amenities: fireplaces, cable TV, in trees with river, very scenic, hiking, fly fishing, winter snow,
hunting, cabins, microwave, chalets and houses, high speed wireless internet cloud around office,
pets by permission, NO smoking inside cabins.

Very special place in highest county in "lower 48". Unique and comfortable 24 log cabins and homes among tall spruce, fir, aspen and cottonwood trees. Green lawns, 65 foot waterfall and lots of flowers. Firepit by the river. New basketball half-court, sand volleyball court. Thursday night cookouts and friendliness as honored traditions are why people return year after year (so reserve early). Cabins: 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms, queen beds, color cable TV, some with fireplaces. Our cabin village is a magical retreat in the midst of a national forest and wilderness areas in south central Colorado Rockies. The Lake Fork of the Gunnison River runs through it. The mountainsides are strewn with boulders, aspen, Douglas fir, Colorado blue spruce, mountain laurel, and sagebrush. Accessible by major highways yet remote from the nearest cities by one hour drive, Hinsdale County is the least populated county in Colorado with nearly 92% of the county accessible public lands. Free of the piles of stuff that endlessly accumulate in our surroundings and in our minds, there's nothing to do but relax and have fun activities. Once a week we have a shared campfire in the evening for barbeques, and other outdoor cooking treats - a magnet that attracts our cabin visitors to neutral ground, a place to gather and warm up on chilly nights in early spring and fall before the snow flies. Your neighbors may be bear, moose, deer, antelope, rabbits, chipmunks, ground squirrels, ducks, Canadian geese and several species of birds, eagles, owls, and falcons. With the increasing pace of modern life, the desire to escape and return to a simpler life has an even greater importance to our well-being and vitality. The cabin, a structure that in the past was a necessity, has now become a sanctuary, a place to escape from the rigors of everyday life and return to the land, even if only for a weekend. As you lazily sit back in a comfy, old chair and either look up at the dazzlingly bright stars or look into the flickering flames of your fire, you can't begin to imagine what life would be like without the elemental pleasures of a cabin retreat.
